The Prime Minister of Finland did not discuss with other officials the transfer of decommissioned fighter jets to Kyiv

Moscow. 11th of March. INTERFAX.RU – Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s proposal to transfer decommissioned Hornet fighter jets to Ukraine was not discussed with anyone in the country, President Sauli Niinistö said.

“This issue has not been discussed with anyone,” Niinistö, who is visiting the US, told Finnish news agency STT on Saturday.

Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen also expressed bewilderment.

“Marin didn’t talk to me about the idea beforehand. I would have warned her,” he told Iltalehti newspaper.

According to him, Marin did not discuss this issue with the commander of the Defense Forces, General Timo Kivinen.

During a visit to Ukraine, Marin said in Kyiv on March 10 that Finland could discuss the transfer of decommissioned fighter jets to Ukraine. She said she had discussed with President Volodymyr Zelensky the need to support Ukraine with heavy weapons.

“I think we can consider the issue of the Hornets, whether it will be possible to transfer them to Ukraine and what kind of preparation will be required in this regard,” Marin said.
