Power outages in 6,000 homes in the Czech Republic due to strong winds

Strong winds caused power outages today (Saturday) in about 6,000 homes in the Czech Republic, more than a third of them in the “Pardubice” region.
Radio “Prague International” – in its English-language bulletin – stated that the energy company “CEZ” recorded power outages from more than 8 thousand supply points at around 3 am local time today, indicating that by morning this number had decreased to about 2500, However, it rose again around 11 am to about 3,000, while the competing company, EGD, recorded power outages for about 3,000 consumers in its supply network.

The radio added that strong winds accompanied by snowfall in some areas caused the disruption of transport, and firefighters were called to dozens of places where branches or trees fell, as they obstructed railways and roads, indicating that the Meteorological Office warned of strong winds. It remains in effect until tonight.
