Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, about 967,546 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Germany until August 21.
According to a statement issued on August 23, the German Federal Ministry of Interior revealed that out of this total number, about 36 per cent are children and young people, which means 351,061 people are under the age of 18, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
“We are experiencing the largest refugee movement in Europe since the Second World War. In this dramatic situation, we have achieved what has never been achieved in Europe: the joint, fast and unbureaucratic admission of refugees. As a result, we have saved many lives together,” Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser pointed out in this regard.
She also added that Germany would continue to give refugees hope, support and prospects. According to her, Germany has greatly expanded integration courses and help, job placement and childcare support.
Data show that out of the total of 967,546 refugees from Ukraine who have been registered in the Central Register of Foreigners since February 24, about 97 per cent are Ukrainian citizens.
At the same time, about 74 per cent of adults are women, while about eight per cent of refugees are older than 64 years.
Germany’s federal police also reported that nearly 700 refugees from Ukraine are currently entering Germany every day.
As the Ministry explains, many refugees registered in Germany may have travelled to other EU countries and also returned to Ukraine. On the other hand, the figure of 967,546 people is the number of people who have stayed or are staying in Germany since the beginning of the war.
Moreover, data provided by the United Nations Refugee Agency reveal that about 3.8 million Ukrainian refugees have returned to Ukraine, at least temporarily, from other European countries.
Such data also show that since the war started, a total of 8.1 million Ukrainian refugees have crossed the border to EU countries.
In addition, from February 24 to July 23, approximately 6.6 million people were displaced within the territory of Ukraine.
The same source also revealed that between the invasion of Russia on February 24 and August 15, 2022, about 10.9 million people left Ukraine.
According to data, about 4.1 million people who fled Ukraine were registered for temporary protection in the 29 EU countries from the start of the war until August 14.
